Mary MacKillop was born in Fitzroy, Melbourne on January the 15th 1842. She was the first child to Alexander MacKillop and Flora MacDonald. Mary was one child out of 8 and spent most of her childhood years looking after and acting like a second mother to her siblings. The MacKillop family were quite poor so at the young age of 14, Mary got herself a job as a governess and as teacher at a Portland school. All the money Mary earned went towards her families everyday living. While working as a governess, Mary met Father Julian Tension Woods. Lastly, the irony created by Shelley demonstrates the ephemeral nature of human authority, regardless of the greatness or the size of the power. The words on the pedestal, â€Å"My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings: / Look on my works, ye mighty and despair† (10-11), contradict with the surroundings of the pedestal such as the â€Å"shattered visage† (4), â€Å"Two vast trunkless legs of stone† (2), and the â€Å"boundless† (13), â€Å"bare (13), â€Å"lone and level sands† (14). While the quote on the pedestal shows adoration for Ozymandias, suggesting that his mighty power is invincible and divine, the surroundings of the pedestal contradicts with the statement written on the pedestal. Ozymandias’ ‘holy’ statue is destroyed and his kingdom is completely vanished, leaving only a plain desert behind. Furthermore, the pedestal’s words also go against the source of the tale of Ozymandias. Yes, Maryland is south of the M ason Dix on line and was a slave state before the Civil War but when it came time to secede or stand with the Union Maryland aligned with the North . Maryland , in contrast with Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia , does not offer the same kind of southern atmosphere . I view Maryland as n either a northern or southern state but rather a state wh ich is its own . People do not view each other as southerne rs like those in Mississippi. No Marylander views themselves as a northerner like those in New York . I love the great state of Maryland becaus e, although it is such a small state according to the City-Data.com , with just 10,460 sq. miles , there is so much to offer and so much to enjoy every day . Britain had control over the colonists which cant they werent free men and couldnt make their own government like the Declaration of Independence stated that they could.
